Less traffic, more movement - new traffic routing in the Obere Au area

The fresh green of Chur's artificial turf pitches are where the football clubs "Chur97" and "FC Orion Chur" as well as the American Football team "Calanda Broncos" practice and play. These three artificial turf pitches at Obere Au are open all year round and can be hired for private tournaments.

Graubünden’s capital is the oldest city in Switzerland and one of the warmest thanks to the Foehn. Stroll along the cobblestones of the picturesque Old Town and breathe in the history of the buildings and alleys. Visit the Episcopal, see the award-winning art museum but don’t be frightened by Benedict Fontana's martial monument. Down from his pedestal with his sword, the Schlachtenheld shows you the way south to where the hawkers once sought their way across the Graubünden passes to Italy. Directly out of the city you can take a cable car up to Brambrüesch. Up there, you’ll find a plateau with hiking trails and wonderful panoramic views over the entire Rhine Valley. If you are brave enough, you can go back down to the city on a mountain bike via the downhill track. In winter you are welcomed by ski slopes, toboggan run, winter hiking and snowhoeing trails on Chur's local mountain. 

This project was developed by the local and international known streetart artist «Bane» in cooperation with the City of Chur and the Cultural Office of Chur. The Lachen schoolhouse is located in the neighborhood where «Bane» grew up. This was an important project for him, and an opportunity to give something back to the beautiful city in which he was raised.

Along the significant river Rhine with a length of 1,231 km there are always places where you can linger. The Rhine in Chur and the surrounding area is too wild and too cold for swimming. Numerous beautiful places, fireplaces as well as hiking trails and bicycle tours entice you to explore the diverse Rhine valley. On its course through the canton of Graubünden, the Rhine passes, among other places, the well-known wine-growing areas in the Bündner Herrschaft.

The postal bus station at Chur train station is one of the city's most striking buildings. The imposing glass dome has been built in 1993 by architects Richard Brosi and Robert Obrist, provides shelter for passengers and buses in all weathers and serves as a starting point for many interesting rides aboard the yellow buses. At night, the structure is illuminated by spotlights, lighting up the centre of Chur. There is also a gently domed glass and steel structure over the platforms of Chur station. In its appearance, the 300 m long span of the unsupported glass roof is reminiscent of railway halls from the 19th century.

Large and grey, yet friendly - that sums up the building constructed by St. Moritz architect Nicolaus Hartmann between 1907 und 1910. While its grey, starkly structured façades give the building a majestic appearance, thanks to its large forecourt it is not overpowering. The architecture is an expression of the so-called "Bündner Heimatstil", a movement that took up and developed the traditional style of building of the region. The prestigious yet agreeable administration building is regarded as one of the movement's most significant works.
